So how does it work? When you put the code on your web pages, the Google bot spiders your pages and finds key words to match with ads in their data base. Then they show up on your site in different forms. You can put them on multiple sites. When your account reaches $100, you get paid. Note that the ads are competing with your website. You lose a visitor, and you get compensated, in another words.
There are some rules to follow in the TOS ( terms of service agreement.) One of the rules is that you cannot click on your own ads, because that would be click fraud and your account would be suspended. There are other rules like you can only put three boxes of ads per page, and you can't have ads on the same page as videos. You also can not have words like "click here" on your web pages to get visitors to click on the ads.
Although there have been reports of people making $10,000 on Adsense a month,etc; that probably isn't likely for most of us unless you push through about 40,000 hits to ten different sites and have it convert at 35% or more. In another words, it's been hyped on the internet for years next to affiliate marketing by gurus and so forth.
In retrospect, is it worth looking into? Well if you want to learn a bit more about the mechanisms of internet marketing and want to make a few bucks, I heartily recommend it. On the other hand, if you are looking for a way to become the next internet millionaire over night, you would be best advised to look elsewhere.
